Thanks everyone for reading and giving your thoughts. Great stuff. Thanks for the encouragement Catherine and I agree with you Sigga that so much of the fear of failure can be cutoff (or at least largely diminished) with our children at an early age. My father has always taught me that failure is only fatal if you allow it to be. As Jason said, learning to "fail forward" is highly important.

Hi Andy, thanks for this and the dynamic teaching at CBC. You are so right about fear, God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power love and a sound thru the Holy Spirit. So don't dance with the enemy, he is out to kill steal and destroy all our dreams. Like your Dad says and the Word "If God is for us who can be against us.. hopefully not ourselves. Thanks for giving from your heart Andy, Dad was so right you are a fine young man and his is so proud of you as is your BIG DADDY. Blessings, 3rd yr, front row CBC Student, Catherine :.)

That really struck a cord with me because there are so many things I have not persued for that fear of failing. There is still time and that needs to be a new tape to play in my mind.

I've lived my entire life watching people fail due to fear. I have seen them fail because they were afraid and I have seen them fail because someone was afraid of them. Confidence and fear are one in he same as they cannot exist without each other. I am afraid of having a heart attack, so I eat healthy and try to avoid stressful situations. In doing so I have noticed that stress will find you no matter what. Whether you are afraid of having a flat tire while driving a familiar road or losing your job due to a million reasons. I sometimes wonder is it better to push the fear down with your confidence or let it be known with open naivety. Either way it is seen as a weakness or a strength. I believe in living your best. This seems like a canned answer to 1,001 questions/situations, but your own self is the easiest to convince, whether it be true or not. Sometimes you do your best and sometimes you do your worst. The in between times are really the most important to me. They are the times where there is always room to grow(confidence and positivity) and there is room to fall flat (fear and negativity). The in between is where we prove who we are and how others react to us. I've lived 27 years in the in between. I hope for many more.

Another great story of failure (that ironically enough is about basketball) is that of Michael Jordan. As a sophomore in high school Jordan tried and failed to make the varsity team. Rather than give up, he was motivated and became the star of the junior varsity team. We are all familiar with what happened after that as he went on to become the GREATEST basketball player of all-time (yes he is, don't even start with the Kobe debate). But, imagine if he had become discouraged and frustrated, abandoning all hope of playing? How different would the world of sports be if that scrawny kid that was considered under-sized did not persevere and continue to pursue his dream?
